"You
can fool some of the people all the time, and all of the people some of the
time, but you cannot fool all of the people all the time."
- Abraham Lincoln
I gather there are negotiations between the Presidency and other arms of government, that the parties involved might reach some equipoise on the fuel subsidy imbroglio. Interesting, but was it all a ploy to test the voice and power of the masses. May be the actual target for the price increase was lower, but those in power decided to start higher, then eventually reduce the price as a form of compromise. But whatever is attained by this politically motivated discussion doesn't change the underpinning societal issues. It doesn't change the excessive tendencies of government officials, especially the 'People Destroying People' and its allies. It doesn't change the state of security or the lack of infrastructure. When are we going to start holding government officials accountable ?
The Occupy Movement for Nigeria has lead to many revelations of corruption in government and exposition of filth in the petroleum sector, but is it possible for the so called 'cabal' to operate without the connivance of government officials especially the Presidency ?
We strongly need to identify the true leaders in our midst and excogitate a plan for our future. I was once told by my teacher 'no one is born foolish but foolishness can be gradually and unintentionally attained.'
We need to abandon foolishness and stop following the foolish for;
“He who knows not and knows not he knows not: he is a fool - shun him. He who knows not and knows he knows not: he is simple - teach him. He who knows and knows not he knows: he is asleep - wake him. He who knows and knows he knows: he is wise - follow him.”
I must at this juncture state that this dire situation was avoidable. Unfortunately those of us who warned against returning the 'People Destroying People' after 12 years of ineptitude, have to suffer the drastic consequences in our milieu too.
Alas! Many making noise now, were trying to justify the unjustifiable as reason to vote for a man but not his party; WHAT !!! How sensible !
The poignancy of the situation is, the so called educated who are meant to use their GOD giving sensibilities, personal gumption and acquired knowledge to decipher truth from falsehood and right from wrong, chose to abandon logic and substitute it with myopic ethnic bias and concocted religious sentiments.
I have chosen to call them the 'educated illiterates' because they allowed such otiose frivolities beguile their senses, especially when it mattered most. Little wonder some thought appropriate the label; "Idiots ruled by Fools"
Whatever the levels of foolishness either deliberate or accidental, please get liberated either by force, prayer (holy slap) or association with the wise, for the destinies of the foolish and wise are intertwined somewhat.
For those who refuse to be foolish and allow foolishness and its manifestations to thrive by following the foolish, please continue to observe keenly, matters of governance and voice out actively against oppression, injustice and corruption.
Fellow Nigerians ! Please be aware the road to the attainment of success is long and hard, Rome was not built over night, only the foolish would assume this is a short term struggle; this is just the beginning.
"If a man is a fool, you don't train him out of being a fool by sending him to university. You merely turn him into a trained fool, ten times more dangerous." ~Desmond Bagley
